Today my Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 4 installed via Windows Updates (Windows 11 25H2) the Lenovo Ltd. Firmware Driver Update (1.35.0.0). After rebooting, the system failed to start with Boot error: 0183 Bad CRC Security Settings in EFI variable.
What Happened:
Windows automatically installed:
- Lenovo Ltd. – Firmware – 1.35.0.0
- Laptop restarted for firmware installation
- Boot process failed
- BIOS displayed a CRC Error
- Fingerprint recognition doesn’t work anymore
- Facial recognition (Windows Hello) doesn’t work anymore
Possible Cause:
It looks like the firmware update may have:
- Corrupted the BIOS
- Failed during flashing
- Or installed incompatible firmware for the device model.
Because the update was delivered through Windows Update, I didn’t realize that this will happen.
What I tried:
- Reset BIOS to default configuration
- Reset fingerprint BIOS settings
I will update the article with new information.
